Mark Oh is the Fire Cleaning & Contents Department Manager for ServiceMaster Restoration By Simons, leading the team that cleans, restores, documents, and manages belongings affected by fire, smoke, water, and other property damage throughout the North Shore and northwest suburbs.
When a home or business is damaged, the structure is only part of the loss. Furniture, artwork, rugs, clothing, electronics, documents, photographs, and personal belongings may also require professional attention. Mark and his team evaluate affected contents to determine what can be cleaned and restored rather than automatically assuming damaged items must be discarded.
Mark oversees the contents restoration process, including pack-outs, inventory and documentation, contents cleaning, textile and upholstery cleaning, coordination of specialized electronics restoration, secure storage, and returning restored belongings when the property is ready.
His experience with fire and smoke losses is particularly important because soot and smoke residues can affect materials differently. Wood, metal, textiles, electronics, artwork, and other contents may require different cleaning techniques, and certain fire residues can continue to damage surfaces if not properly addressed.
For larger losses, Mark coordinates with the company's mitigation, restoration, and reconstruction teams so that contents can be safely removed when necessary while work proceeds on the structure.
Mark understands that the items inside a home aren't simply an inventory. Many have financial, practical, or sentimental value that a replacement list can't capture. His goal is to identify what can reasonably be saved and make sure those belongings are documented, handled, cleaned, stored, and returned with care.
