What to do to prepare for a Hurricane?
Planning for hurricane season can be stressful, and because the 2020 hurricane season comes during the COVID-19 pandemic, it may be especially so. For businesses owners its especially important to help your employees safely prepare for hurricane season while protecting themselves and others from COVID-19.
Help your employees be Prepared
This year give yourself more time than usual to stock up on emergency supplies. Have a week’s supply of water, plenty of nonperishable food items and refill necessary prescriptions for all family members including pets. If you need to evacuate prepare a “go kit”. Include items that can help protect you and others from COVID-19, such as hand sanitizer, or bar and liquid soap if not available, and two cloth face coverings for each person.
If you need to go to a disaster shelter, follow CDC recommendations for staying safe and healthy in a public disaster shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fill your vehicles gas tank and make sure you have a car charger for your cell phone. And finally review and understand your insurance coverage and understand your deductibles for hurricane damage.
Protect your property
Bring loose items inside, tables and chairs can become projectiles that penetrate your building exasperating water and wind damage throughout. Close windows, doors and hurricane shutters. If you don’t have hurricane shutters board up windows and doors with ½” marine grade plywood.
Turn off all propane tanks and unplug all appliances. If you loose power or leave your property make sure the main switches to the circuit breaker are off (if possible).
And finally take a photo/video of the exterior and interior of your property.
