About Hilliard, OH
The current population of Hilliard, OH is estimated to be 37,137. The motto on the Hilliard town water tower says it all: Real People. Real Possibilities. At Hilliard, we believe in the power of community. Whether you are looking to build a family or start a business, our city offers a bright future. Ever since the completion of the I-270 Outerbelt in the 1980s, Hilliard has witnessed explosive growth. We enjoy the best of both worlds – as a quiet suburb in the greater Columbus region, we have a small-town feel with big city conveniences.
Geographically, Hilliard sits between Big Darby Creek and the Scioto River. It initially sat directly next to the Piqua and Indiana Railroad station, which bisected the former Hilliard farmland. A man named John Hilliard platted the region in 1853. These two historical tidbits are why the city was originally known as Hilliard’s Station. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Hilliard’s Station served as the shipping point for local agricultural products and supplies. “Station” was dropped from the town name in 1854 after the construction of the town post office.
