Are you prepared for North Carolina’s bad weather and natural disasters?
FEMA’s public service announcement campaign, Ready, has designated September to be Natural Preparedness Month in the U.S. This campaign is spreading the word about the ways Americans can better prepare themselves for both man-made and natural disasters. Each week of the month is dedicated to preparing you for a specific disaster that could happen in your home or business.
What are the themes for all of the weeks, you ask?
Week 1: Flood
Week 2: Wildfire
Week 3: Hurricane
Week 4: Power Outage
At ServiceMaster Quality Restoration in Charlotte, we want to help you, your family, and your property be prepared for anything – all of these disasters that Ready has identified during this month can happen in Charlotte and all throughout North Carolina. That’s why we encourage you to be aware of FEMA’s guidelines to keep you safe during floods, fires, hurricanes, or any natural disaster:
Be sure to create a family emergency communication plan. FEMA has a wonderful template complete with all of the information you need in a downloadable document (click here to view).
- To protect and insure all of your valuables, talk with your insurance provider about creating a home inventory checklist.
- Have all important documents stored in a safe place. For more information about what FEMA identifies as a “critical document,” click here.
- Be aware of all of the possible natural disaster alerts and warnings that could happen in your area.
