Essential Halloween Safety Tips for a Fun and Safe Night

Halloween is right around the corner, a night that is fun for everyone. With all of the festivities involved, it’s easy to get distracted. We don’t want you to forget that there are a few safety concerns you need to be mindful of, especially involving your children.

Halloween Safety

Pedestrian Safety

Too many pedestrians are injured on Halloween. Many incidents occur in driveways, parking lots, or on private property. In fact, children are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year! To prevent this from occurring, wear reflective tape, carry a flashlight or glowsticks so that cars can see you. Stay on the sidewalk, watch for cars, and always supervise your children.

Trick or Treating

An adult should be with children while trick or treating. If you have older children, make sure you know the route they are going to take and agree on a time they should return home. Make sure your older ones know to keep in well-lit areas and stay with friends at all times. It is best to have your kids wait to eat treats until you get home so you can check them out.

Costume Safety

Be sure that costumes, wigs, and accessories you choose are free of safety hazards, by checking to see if they are fire-resistant. Avoid masks because they obstruct your vision. When using makeup check to see if it is non-toxic and check a small area of skin for allergies first.

Safety Tips for Drivers

To ensure driver safety, make sure that you are aware and watching for all kids who are crossing. Drive slow and keep alert at all times. Keep your phone put away, texting and driving is illegal and very dangerous.
