Radon Awareness Month
January is National Radon Action Month. During this month you should become more aware of what Radon is and how you can reduce the presence of it in your home. Take this time to educate yourself and do a radon test to be sure that there is none in your house.
What is Radon?
Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that moves up through the soil in the ground under homes or buildings and can seep into them. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that one in every fifteen homes have high radon levels and second to smoking, it is the main cause of lung cancer deaths.
Since you can’t see or smell radon it is important to take the time to test your home with a testing kit. They are easy to use and not expensive. You can more information on where to get a kit here. Also if you are looking to buy a home consider purchasing a Radon resistant one.
Make sure that you tell others this month about Radon and the dangers it brings. Encourage them to test their home as well. Making people aware will make a huge difference in reducing radon exposure.
