How to Prevent Water Damage at Your Business

The Most Common Water Damage Culprits in Your Business:
Appliances
Air conditioners, water heaters, refrigerators and dish washers are common culprits for water damage in the workplace. Older appliances tend to break, rust and cause water damage more often. Because of this, make sure that everything that uses water in your facility is working properly.
Drains & Pipes
Plumbing in your business is also a likely suspect for water damage – including your toilet, sink and washing machine. Be sure to prevent grease buildup in sinks and clear your lint vent in dryers. Clogs are very common in plumbing, so be sure that your system is flowing properly.
Also, in the winter, pipes in your plumbing can freeze and burst. In fact, according to State Farm, a 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day.
Roofing
Old roofing or missing parts in your roof can cause severe water damage, especially during winter when ice dams can build up and add unwanted pressure on your ceiling. Be sure that your ventilation and insulation in your attic is functioning properly when your business is being exposed to wind, water, snow and ice.
