- If you have a live tree, keep the base of your tree immersed in water. Make sure to keep your tree moist all the time. A tree with dry needles is more likely to ignite.
- Keep your tree away from heat. Do not place your tree next to fireplaces, heaters, candles, heat vents, etc.
- Inspect all lights for frayed wires, cracked or missing bulbs. Check your lights, only use lights that are UL approved (Underwriters Laboratories).
- Make sure to unplug all lights when going to bed or away from the home.
- Do not place any sharp, heavy, or breakable ornaments near the lower part of the tree where pets or little children can get ahold of them.
- Artificial snow sprays can be done without. They can cause allergies and irritation to the lungs when inhaled.
- Use a step stool or ladder when decorating those hard to reach places to prevent falls.
