About Stamford, CT
Just 34 miles outside Manhattan, Stamford, CT grew as a summer destination for New Yorkers in the late 19th century. The city was finally incorporated in 1893, approximately 250 years after the city was settled in 1640. Stamford is home to one of the largest libraries in Connecticut, the Ferguson Library, as well as several institutions such as the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and the Stamford Center for the Arts: The Palace Theatre. A statue of Jackie Robinson, who lived in Stamford, stands in Jackie Robinson Park. Historical parks also pepper our city, including Mill River Park, Cummings Park (also known as Halloween Park), and Cove Island Park.
