ABOUT US
The first time Skip Bell heard about ServiceMaster, he was listening to the Paul Harvey Show on the radio. Skip had always wanted his own business and he was drawn to the idea of service in his community. He already had his foot in the door at a local accounting firm, but he couldn’t stop thinking about the possibility of starting his own ServiceMaster franchise.
In December of 1993, Skip left his accounting job, painted the family van yellow, and started the ServiceMaster franchise of Reading. His first job was washing windows for a gentleman in Wyomissing and his only employee was his wife, Laura. They ran the business out of their laundry room for the first few years, but eventually upgraded to a small building in Mt. Penn and shared the space with a local church. Together, Skip and Laura worked hard to balance family life and the new business. Skip worked jobs during the day and met clients at night while Laura drove their three young children to various cleaning jobs.
30 years later, Skip and Laura have outgrown their laundry room office and expanded the reach of their business. Their office is located in the heart of Berks County with a fleet of industry vehicles and a warehouse. ServiceMaster Assured Cleaning and Restoration offers water, fire, and mold mitigation services in addition to their full reconstruction division. They employ more than 25 team members and service Berks, Lebanon, and Schuylkill counties as well as parts of Montgomery and Chester.
Together, Skip and Laura are looking forward to growing the business and providing new opportunities for everyone on their team and the next generation of ServiceMaster.
