The difficulty of the past two years prompted ServiceMaster NCR to take their support of the community to the next level. Jane Gandee, owner of SMNCR, served on the Advisory Board for The Salvation Army Alexandria Citadel Corps for numerous years and championed company-wide involvement with many Salvation Army outreach programs. In September, SMNCR reached out to The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command to offer a full-time salaried person to work at the organization’s regional headquarters located in downtown Washington, D.C.
Dianne Anderson was chosen to be the ServiceMaster NCR first “Salvation Army Ambassador”. Dianne was the obvious choice because of her charitable spirit and her drive to be a positive force in the community. Dianne has worked with ServiceMaster NCR for over 18 years as an account manager. During this time, she has consistently gone above and beyond to help those in need.
Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander for The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, enthusiastically accepted ServiceMaster’s generous donation of one of their team members. “The Salvation Army is grateful to ServiceMaster NCR for loaning Dianne Anderson to us. Dianne’s years of experience and energy is extremely helpful to our development team, and the timing couldn’t be any better,” said Major Mark Woodcock. “Dianne’s arrival comes as we prepare to serve families for Thanksgiving and Christmas through a variety of programs, including the holiday assistance program Angel Tree.” The support is helping The Salvation Army to continue serving families and individuals facing food and shelter insecurity throughout the Washington, D.C. region.
Since September Dianne has been working mainly on the Angel Tree Project helping organize events, making pickups and deliveries, and jumping in wherever she is most needed. Dianne loves her new “job” and says it feels good to help reach those in need.
Last year, The Salvation Army assisted 50,847 people living throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia, and depends on community support including the donation of time and talent. Nearly 4,300 volunteers donated 19,439 hours of their time to support The Salvation Army’s work in 2020.
