Heavy Rain Through Thursday to Bring Flash Flooding to Most of Texas
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has been hit hard with heavy rainfall since
late Sunday. In the upcoming days, portions of Texas and Louisiana are
likely to receive additional rounds of drenching downpours, which forecasters
warn could amount to an entire summer's worth of rainfall. The zone expected
to face the highest risk for flooding rainfall through Thursday will be
from Dallas to the Arkansas and Louisiana border, as tropical moisture
from the Southwestern states pushes eastward.
A general area of 2-4 inches is expected across central Texas through Alabama,
from Sunday through Thursday. Enhanced areas of rain over 4 inches are
expected across northern Texas, southern Oklahoma, and into portions of
Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. As much as 8-12 inches of rain may
fall from around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, east across northern
Louisiana, and far southern Arkansas, with a total of up to 16 inches possible.
In the right conditions, storms can generate immense amounts of precipitation
that quickly saturate the ground, overwhelm drainage systems, and swell
waterways. Rapidly rising water can easily inundate businesses, where
it may stay for hours or days before receding. As an experienced leader
